India unfolded: sights, stories and surprises from 40 years of travel

Saturday 24 January, 3pm, All Saints Church, Lydiard Millicent, SN5 3LS

It was the chance discovery of a cousin in Madras (Chennai) that set 20-year-old Andrew Roberts off to India for the first time. On his first of 43 trips to the country so far, he found “the people lovely but everything strange” and he was completely unprepared for the attention he drew.

“India is an extraordinary country and I have learned to expect the unexpected,” Andrew says. Little could he have expected that his cricketing knowledge would eventually land him a role on a TV show watched by millions, that he would make friends with one of India’s legendary cricketers, travel by plane with a saint, attend teaching by one of the world’s religious leaders, be threatened twice with prison, and make numerous friends on his frequent journeys.

Forty years after his first visit, the now Lydiard Millicent resident and church warden is looking forward to sharing from the sights, stories and surprises he has experienced in this remarkable country.
